The previously reported Arctic Tern was at the Marina Sandpit today on & off from 10 to 12.

Although the ebird reports are not yet confirmed, there are a growing number of folks viewing & ID'ing it. We were able to slowly approach to within 50 feet, allowing for great views & photo ops.

If you are prepared to spend a little time waiting around there is a good chance you can spot it. It hangs out on the shoreline a couple feet from the water's edge, flies off for a minute (or 20) then returns.

Note the rounder head, light carpal bars and lighter gray primaries that distinguish it from the very similar Common. Wings in flight are very light.

Good birding!

Arctic Tern is a state review species, so hopefully observers will please soon submit the record for review to the CBRC: coloradobirdrecords.org

Regarding eBird, a standard eBird practice for CBRC state review species is to wait until a record is submitted for CBRC review before confirming eBird reports.
