Analytics Lounge is at 4910 W. Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60639. Walking distance from Metra's Grand Ave. and Cicero station, and on the CTA #54, 65 and 72 bus routes. Other tips about transit etc. at http://www.analyticslounge.org/
For the August meeting of CNC Build Club we're visiting Analytics Lounge (and Village Mill) a Science-and-CNC space along the lines of a "makerspace" but with a sciencey bent.
At Analytics Lounge, the big CNC projects include:
* Waterjet - Likely one of the ONLY CNC waterjet machines available to the maker community. Cuts glass, marble, steel, TITANIUM!!! Precision optical locator for parts alignment down to thousandths of an inch. 55 x 100" usable work area. Very impressive.
* CNC Router - 6' 9" x 11' 10" ... pretty big! New HSD ES 915 spindle just installed. They have an automatic tool changer (ATC) spindle for it. They got a grant from Automation Direct for a whole bunch of pneumatic equipment, etc.
* Fadal VMC 4020 - This is a HUGE, POWERFUL CNC machine with a 21 tool changer and a 40"x20" work volume. Both this and the other Fadal listed below are definitely in "project" stages, not currently on-line and available.
* Fadal VMC 3016 - This is a smaller version of the 4020, with a 30"x16" work volume but a newer CNC controller.
This is a little out of the way, but definitely worth the trip! There are also a number of hard-science tools in use and in the process of being put to use, like the SEM that used to be a Pumping Station: One, a couple of atomic absorption spectrometers (AAS) and an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS)

The meetup is tomorrow night! RSVP if you are coming, we'd like to get a more accurate than typical count, since this will be away from the usual stomping grounds a bit and people aren't as familiar with the space.
