Understanding timing belts/pulleys

I'm thinking about building with this design (http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-Your-Own-DIY-CNC/?ALLSTEPS). One question I have is how to size/pick the right timing pulleys and belts. Anyone have any knowledge or documentation on this?
