I've recently completed my PhD on the topic of "Energy-Efficient Management of Virtual Machines in Data Centers for Cloud Computing". For anyone interested in the topic, my PhD thesis is available online: http://beloglazov.info/thesis.pdf

During my PhD I used CloudSim for simulations, and finally implemented a real VM consolidation manager as an extension to the OpenStack Cloud platform. The VM consolidation manager is called OpenStack Neat: http://openstack-neat.org/ The project is described in detail in Chapter 6 of the thesis.

Joe, the hard copies of thesis have been made by the university's publishing. Converting the thesis to a book requires significant efforts, which I'm not ready to commit to at the moment.
