Chinese input on and off

Just picked up some old chinese writing work, and found that the Pinyin input feels different.

The candidate bar will show up, but in a couple of seconds, somehow the system will decide that the Pinyin input is intended to be English. Like when I type in 

今天， it will show as ji逆天. Or, when I want to say 大家都，it ends up being 大ji阿斗. 

It has been slowly and steadily driving me crazy!
