Resource guide
Monthly calendar
The resource guide is what we are working on and the calendar would be a
subset of that work.
There are several local authors related authors - I can send that list.
Nature and children's health - ask Nooshin Razani (pediatrician at the EB
Forum to write an article)
Cover topics related to infancy, early childhood, elementary, and teens --
and different natural areas -- neighborhoods, nature in very urban areas,
schools, parks and open space, and wilderness
(Some of the local authors are also parents and could write some of
these articles)
Do we want to think about core messages or 3-4 things we want parents to
take away from reading this issue? Some possibilities:
- Strengthening family bonds through experiences in nature
- Address parents' fears about nature (this magazine gives significant
attention to common concerns and fears of parents)
- The health benefits of nature (and risks of our increasingly indoor life
and decline of play)
Is the audience for this publication parents in the East Bay -- or does it
cover a wider area?
Thank you for exploring this opportunity -- I can think about more details
of above in the next few days.
Mary
We could probably get an interview with Richard Louv in April -- I can check
with his publicist. Included in his interview, can be reference to the
Nature Club for Families toolkit

Nooshin is part of this google group -- I can also ask her.

Film:
A Simple Question
http://www.asimplequestion.org
A Simple Question, chronicles an inspiring story: the STRAW project
(Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed). The film follows one
fourth-grade classroom's restoration efforts to bring back the endangered
freshwater shrimp in Northern California. Partnering with ranchers,
scientists, government agencies, and local non-profits, this program has
since restored over 22 miles of habitat, galvanized the community, and lead
to significant educational innovations for local classrooms. The STRAW
project serves as testimony to the importance of empowering children, which
in turn transforms us all. The film has screened at over 35 Film Festivals,
garnered more than 10 awards, and is gaining traction with schools and
nature organizations around the country.
I'm sure other books and information will come to mind!
