I am willing to offer to some help.
Regards,
Vijay
I am totally new to the conference scene, so I have little idea as to
what it takes. What type of work is involved?
Thanks
Lakshmi

We have four people now. Is it sufficient for the "ground team"?

Vijay

My experience with conducting a Python training program in this college
was very nice [1]. So, I am +1 for this college.

I prefer Chennai to Coimbatore and it looks like you already have a
venue. If you can keep the steam up till the conference to make the
people on the ground get things done, I think Chennai has a strong
case.
Sponsorships will be (atleast partially) from outside (companies in
B'lore, Pune, Delhi etc.) so that will get distributed.

polls of this sort are stupid - they are so easily subverted
> Or there is a large group of python programmers in coimbatore.
> Within 1 hour 3:20 - 4:20, the count for coimbatore increased from 23
> - 113.
as far as this poll is concerned, I do not think it is gamed in that
sense. What has happened is that we have been conducting a lot of python
workshops in Coimbatore and Kerala and these are students who are
voting. Which is largely irrelevant as most of them would at the most be
volunteers or newbie participants
>
> Isn't there a better poll site?
> Anyone can edit anyone's votes and a single person can vote any number
> of
> times for his preferred city.
the only proper way is to have a poll where only logged in people can
vote, one vote per person and only people on the inpycon list can vote.
Otherwise it is meaningless.
Count me in. I am a newbie to organizing events but I'd love to join.
If I have been counting it right we now have 14 volunteers. But I guess
it's too late for PyCon India 2011. Pune seems to have won the bid.
But now that we know we have a new team, we could restart ChennaiPy
activities - do periodic workshops, sprints ...

Vijay
Hello All,I want to propose a fortnightly meetup for the active members of the group. I can sponsor up to Rs 2500 / meetupfor snacks and other expenses until we find sponsors when we are active and productive.
The room in Anna Univ had seats and a projector, but no people to fill
in the seats. :-)
Nice. Any contacts at AU? Can we still use their facility?
----
I am also sending an email to Thoughtworks Chennai to see if they are interested in hosting us.
Thanks
Lakshmi.
Zilogic can offer space for meetups ... We are located at Thiruvanmiyur.
Location map is here: http://www.zilogic.com/contact.html
Fortnightly seems to be too frequent to me. Probably we will start with
monthly and move on to fortnightly ...

Vijay

+1 to Thoughtworks, would be great if that works out.
Awesome :D

Agreed. Baby steps.
Next steps?
* Date / Time
- Would 24th Feb, 6PM be good?
* Talk Proposals
* Questions / Topics for discussion
Thanks
Lakshmi.
Also, let's please schedule it so that it doesn't clash with other
chennai geek events.

Neat. Thats perfect :)

I am new to the tech scene in Chennai (been out of the country for a good while). I
have no idea what / when other events are. Anyone thats active can take over the
scheduling of the next meet up (OT: where can I find more about other Chennai geek
events?)
--------
Also, since we are starting off with a monthly once meetup, my sponsorship remains the same
in quantity but increases per event - so its Rs 5000 / event.
Thanks
Lakshmi.
saturday afternoons normally. 2nd saturday is Chennai lug meet and we
used to have chennaipy meets every 4th saturday. Our policy in those
days was to have the meet come what may even if only 2 people attend.

afaik 50 rs is more than enough for a meeting. It is people that are
missing, not money
I suggest dont fix the meet ups on week days. Probably saturday or sunday
time should be 1pm to 4 pm or 2 pm to 5 pm or varying in between that.
But time should not exceed 6pm.
So that should be helpful for girls or long distance travellers.

+1
To conduct python meetup, we no need money.
Probably few industry python people.
So that may help to students to learn many things from them.

Satish from AU done that. We can get room and projector again, if
people suggested that.

Sounds fantastic to me.

Nice. I was hoping that money can bring in the facilities / food that will make it easier for
people to attend the event and contribute.
My offer still remains. If it is a truly inexpensive thing to do, we can perhaps use it for awards,
incubating open source projects and other larger scale events.
Thanks

students. :)

Just keep the momentum going...
1. I have created a free meet up - please sign up / in and RSVP: http://www.groupomatic.com/ko9noioo - (4th saturday of this month = 26th Feb)
2. I have also created a topic request forum - please add your requests for talks - http://chennaipy.uservoice.com
=====================
@Yuvi - can you confirm if 26th Feb gives you enough time to prepare for your talk?
@Vijay - Would 3PM on the 26th be good for a meetup at Zilogic?
Thanks
Lakshmi
That should be fine.
Regards,
Vijay
Apologies for top posting. Fourth saturday this month my college has an open house projects exhibit where I'm demoing four or five projects (all in python) so awful timing.
Also, you can't do lpthw as a talk - it is more a class/workshop than talk. I think newbie talks aren't as useful for real newbies as a small workshop
