Dear Doc,

I read the CSCW 2010 paper and appreciate your efforts to bring Chain of Asker to a broader audience. But for an organisation to use CoA, it would have to be quite sure of the tool's long term perspectives. So I was wondering about your business model and your plans for the future. Is the advertising-supported model satisfactory for you? Are you planning to introduce some kind of premium pricing to remove adverts and provide additional support?

My team would be using the software in a professional setting so we could pay a moderate fee. Are there others willing to do so?

Thank you in advance for your input!

Thank you Alex to take care my business model.

I am another full time job.  Now I am providing this system just for
my desire to provide some useful cooperation tool to the world wide
user.

So Frankly speaking compare to the MS or IBM, Tools long term
perspective is not so much clear.  Sorry that I can not promise
reliable future.

Thanks for being straightforward. I understand that COA is a labour of love. I hope that it is adopted by many, as it provides indeed a very useful approach.

By the way, having a big company behind is no guarantee either. There are many original programs that were developed or bought by major companies and very soon made redundant. See here some examples: http://www.outlinersoftware.com/messages/viewm/7846

Last year I made a research for online collaboration software. One of the strong candidates was Manymoon, which at the time was bought by Salesforce.com. Well, Salesforce "re-packaged" Manymoon into do.com, which has much more limited functionality!

I would also appreciate a save future for CoA! Did you ever thougt about open sourceing it?  I think my company would also pay a humilde amount for this tool. I still didn´t read your commercialisation paper mentioned above but anyway wanted to express my best wishes for you!

A simple idea which is very useful!

Thanks, Hagen.

Dear Doc,

May I propose a (hopefully simple) way to improve Chain Of Asker's appeal to uncertain users? The possibility to export one's data in a non-proprietary format, e.g. CSV or XML. This would mean that in the unfortunate case of an end to the service, users would have access to their work up to then.

Taking it one step further, the ideal would be to export in a format recognised by existing software, e.g. MS Project XML. I myself am not at all a fan of MS Project, but the format is read by many other tools.

Thank you Mr. Schmitt for your kindness word. I may ask help when I
encounter the difficulty to continue this service.

And Thank you Alex for the important suggestion. But I think you
already have this function. As I explained before ChainOfAsker client
save data to the local storage to minimize data transfer from server.

So please search Asker_V3 directory under C:/
Documents and Settings/USER NAME/Local Settings/Application Data/
Microsoft/Silverlight

Then you will find following XML data file

Asker_V3/Tutor/AskerData.xml --  This is tutorial mode user project
data
Asker_V3/GAE/AskerData.xml-----  This is a local copy of all live
project data
Asker_V3/Expired/AskerData.xml-- This is a local copy of expired
project data
