In classic Job Bluthe fashion, I just realized I may have done something extremely foolish (don't all gasp). I just davened maariv at a plag mincha/maariv minyan and inserted "yaaleh ve yavo" into shmoneh esrei. Have I "accepted" Rosh Chodesh to the extent that the 9 days, and the minhagim thereof, apply to me. Does this have anything to do with concept where fastdays relating to puraneios are pushed off and not made earlier? does it relate to the maharshal/taz machlokes about making early yomtov? Can anyone weigh in?

Well, unfortunately, Lewin-luck kicked in tonight. I checkout out פסקי תשובות תקנא:ז and it's black and white from כף החיים and מגן אברהם that by davening early maariv - like פלג and onward - the ניהוגי אבלות of the 9 days begin. I guess I've made my bed and now I have to lay in it. Interestingly, the rule is not based upon whether or not one inserts יעלה ויבוא, it's purely based upon מעריב, but either way, for this boy it's certainly מי שנכנס אב ממעטין בשמחה.
