What's the source for the practice of some people adding in "bzuchus Avraham/Yitzchak/Yaakov avinu" after each of the verses of birkas kohanim in recited during chazaras ha shatz? What's the kesher between zchus avos and birkas kohanim?

The minhag is cited by the aruch hashulchan (OC 127).  I don't recall him providing any sevara for the minhag though.
