Talk suggestion for January

Hello party people,

I'm currently preparing a talk for the jQuery UK conference, happening in Oxford early February. The talk covers both architecture considerations and implementation details and should be interesting for our crowd. From the abstract:

Pitfalls and opportunities of single-page applications

The thick client is back! Pushing entire applications down to the client has become a lot more popular in recent times, and is especially interesting for mobile devices. Though building a really solid and polished single-page applications means that we need to replicate a lot of native browser behaviour. And when we don’t, we’ll annoy or even scare away your users.
This talk will cover both pitfalls and opportunities of single-page applications, with a focus on native behaviour that your app needs to provide in order to behave like an actual web site, while fixing a lot of the usability issues that web sites usually have. For example, this covers dealing with proper URLs, without breaking back and forward buttons, using the (still somewhat new) HTML5 history.pushState API. We’ll look at existing (and still missing) frameworks that help implementing all that.

While I'm planning to have the preparations done for the January event on the 10th, I'd also be looking for feedback for further finetuning.

Our mobile UI (I talked about it some months ago, it's online now - beta
stage! - on https://lab.bscw.de) doesn't use pushState so far, still the
#hashmarks. But it's not a single-pager either, at least it loads pages
and pages over AJAX.

ich hoffe, ihr habt alle ein schönes Weihnachtfest verbracht und erwacht wieder so langsam aus dem Plätzchen-Koma. ;-)

In 14 Tagen findet die erste Cologne.js-Auflage im Jahr 2012 statt und wir sind wieder auf der Suche nach Vorträgen. Jörn hat oben ja bereits seinen Talk "Pitfalls and opportunities of single-page applications" angekündigt, jetzt fehlt uns noch ein zweiter Beitrag für den Abend. Wie immer sind auch interessante Blicke über den Tellerrand willkommen.

ich wünsche euch allen einen guten Start ins neue Jahr! Kommenden Dienstag startet unser erstes Meetup in 2012 und uns fehlt immer noch ein zweiter Talk.

Hat jemand noch eine Idee und möchte diese Gelegenheit zur Präsentation nutzen?

Auf der Wunschliste finden sich z.B. noch Themen wie ECMAScript 5, Phonegap, Underscore.js, Cucumber (Bumi) oder JavaScript VMs (Norbert) *hint hint* ;-)

Den Punkt JavaScript VMs kannst du mal von der Liste löschen. Ich hab da länger nix gemacht und bin wohl nicht mehr auf dem Laufenden. Aber wir hatten früher mal Smalltalk/Seaside drauf. Ich hab das von der Liste nehmen lassen, weil es mir zu alien-mässig vorkam. Aber da wir ja "over the tellerrand" haben und wir nun auch clojurescript hatten, da denke ich nun anders drüber. Ich wurde auch von einigen schon angesprochen, ob ich das nicht mal machen könnte. Ich bin zwar noch etwas krank, denke aber, ich schaffe ws, was für nächste Woche vorzubereiten.

Hallo zusammen,

wenn nicht unerwartet Überstunden auf mich warten, werde ich mich morgen der
Runde anschließen. Ich werde ich den nächsten Monaten an einer (für mich)
größeren Webapplikation mitentwickeln, wobei ich den Frontend-Teil
übernehmen werde. Wir setzen Backbone ein. Daher bin ich vor allem an dem
Vortrag über single-page applications interessiert, freue mich aber auf
Input jeglicher Art.
