The open source implementation provided by Google has some documentation on how to build and get started here:

From the introduction section:

"This HOWTO is intended to get you started running a clustered CT "Super Duper" log server. The scripts in the rep referenced below are targetted at running a log cluster in Google Compute Engine , but since it's all based around Docker images it shouldn't be too hard to use the scripts as a reference for getting a log running on any other infrastructure where you can easily run Docker containers."

If you encounter issues getting the server to work, please do reach out (mail to certificate-...@googlegroups.com would be the best way) and we should be able to help.

If it's for testing only, there's the
--i_know_stand_alone_mode_can_lose_data flag, which makes etcd
unnecessary (and will lose any unsequenced submissions in case of a
crash).
