TransitCamp event – spring 2012

Dear TransitCampers,

At our October meeting, I floated the idea of us organizing an event to engage Calgarians in improving our transit system.

I'm thinking of holding a two hour CivicCamp style event in the spring of 2012. We would get an interesting transit-related speaker and then break into groups to discuss transit issues.

I envision a free-form event where participants can influence what topics are discussed in the small groups (ie route planning, safety, bikes and transit, customer service etc.).

TransitCamp could compile the feedback for  use in our advocacy efforts. An event would also be a good way for us to grow our membership and raise our profile in the community.

At this point I'm looking for a few volunteers to assist me in making this event a reality. If you're interested, email me at jeremyb...@gmail.com by November 10, 2011.

Jeremy and other transitcampers:

I think this is a great idea. I would definitely like to help out. I can provide a lot of visual material (such as the maps I have created for the blogs as well as some 3-D graphics) and I can put together some boards for presenting (William and I have experience doing this with a Beltline Open House we had about a year or so ago).

As for speakers, some suggestions I have are Jarrett Walker (transit consultant, blogger and soon to be author of "Human Transit") or Todd Littman from the Victoria Transportation Policy Institute.

As well, I haven't been totally inactive regarding the blog, and I have been working on a blog for the 16th avenue BRT recently. Hopefully I will have a draft and some graphics to send to all of you by the end of the day for review.
