HELP!

Install went fine, registration went fine, I successfully inserted SD2 as a
soft synth in Sonar 8.5 with multiple synth outputs.

Now, how to get sounds!?

On the "Settings" page, there's a button about 3/4 of the way down that says
"set path to presets". Based on my interpretation of what I saw at a couple
of web sites, I set this to the following directory, which I found:

C:\Program Files\Toontrack\Superior\ Superior Drummer 2.0\SL-Avatar

Also on the "Settings" page, there are several spots where I have to tell it
where to locate "sounds". There's a "set" button for each. It's requesting
paths to these "sounds" for dfh Superior, Custom and Vintage, Vintage
add-on, as well as "backup" for each. I entered the following path for all
except the backups:

C:\Program Files\Toontrack\Superior\ Superior Drummer 2.0\SL-Avatar\sounds

So now I have green check marks next to dfh Superior, Custom and Vintage,
Vintage add-on.

Am I headed in the right direction here? The manual didn't help. Maybe I'm
missing something.

When I hit the kick (which is all that's showing at this point), I get a
message in the bottom left of the "construct" page that flashes "NOT LOADED"
in red.

Thanks!

Thanks! As you can see from my follow-up, I need it!

It's been awhile since I did this, but I don't remember having to jump
through any hoops on this beyond filling in the information the
installation program wanted for locating paths. (I use a custom path
from my sample libraries, rather than the default of C: drive, so, for
example, my SD2 libraries are under S:\Toontrack\Superior Drummer.)

The only thing I do remember having to set up was the path to the old
dfh Superior libraries, so SD2 would know to add the kits from that
package into the kits available under SD2.

I may be wrong, though, as it was a long time ago.

One other consideration for making the kits load, though, was, if you
are using 64-bit SONAR, to make sure and download the new 64-bit DLL
because the old 32-bit DLL didn't load the kits or locate the grooves
properly under BitBridge (I believe it may have under jBridge, but I
didn't have that at the time).

The only thing I entered manually during the installation process was the
path for Sonar's VST directory, which I assume I did properly since
otherwise Sonar wouldn't have recognized SD2 to begin with. For everything
else, I used the default.

It's finding the dfh Superior toms, Custom Vintage toms, and Vintage add-on
toms, so I must have set those paths correctly. These appear when I click
the "construct" menu in the "construct" panel. But it doesn't find anything
else.

I'm using 32 bit SONAR, so those things shouldn't apply.

Nothing shows up when I click the little down arrows!

The menu I've been fooling with mostly is the "Load/Save" menu at the top.

If I go to this menu and then "combined preset", the only thing that shows
up is "default", and if I click that, nothing happens.

The other menu options that I've looked at are "Load Project" and "Load
Project as combined preset". Both of these bring up a box that allows you
to scroll through your directories, and the file extension it's looking for
is .S20. I did a search, and there are NO .S20 files on my computer,
anywhere, period!

Do you (or does anyone else) know what the file extension is for the presets
that load with SD2? If I know that, I can try to find out where they are.

I've got a feeling though that somehow something messed up during the
installation. From what I read from both you and Rick, I shouldn't have to
go digging for these things, they should have showed up automatically.

The other thing that's peripherally related (although my gut tells me if I
do this it may resolve the issues) is that I've downloaded the 2.2.3
upgrade. Should I uninstall what I've got on there now or does it need to
see 2.0 to function properly? I'm thinking either uninstall 2.0 and install
2.2.3, or uninstall and then reinstall 2.0 and then install 2.2.3 over it.

Thanks for the help!

OK, in the C:\Program Files\Toontrack\Superior\Superior Drummer 2.0 folder,
I have two subfolders, one called "PresetsEZX" and another called
"SL-Avatar".

There is no subfolder called "SampleProjs".

There are no files whatsoever, anywhere on my computer, with the ".s20"
extension.

It really looks like something glitched during installation.

Also, when you say "At the top, make sure that N.Y. Avatar is selected",
what exactly do you mean by "at the top"?

In that area, "S1 - Drummer" is displayed on my computer.

The pull-down menu shows no other options.

As I said, there are no .s20 files anywhere (I searched for "*.s20" in the
root directory of the C: drive and all subdirectories).

I'm going to uninstall and reinstall and cross my fingers.

Ah, but I was never getting an option to select "N.Y. Avatar", even before I
entered those paths.

I'm reinstalling now, after uninstalling and wiping away references to
"Toontrack" and "Superior Drummer" in the registry and deleting all the
folders.

During the install, I'm running across a couple of things where I might have
made mistakes earlier. If I'm right, they're too stupid to mention :-)

OK, so I re-installed. Same thing. But one thing I should point out:

I created a new SONAR project and inserted SD2 as a soft synth.

As soon as I click on the icons for one of the audio tracks created (and,
the first time, entering the SD2 authorization code), I get this message:

"You need to set the path to where you installed the sounds before you can
use them."

This happened after my first install, as well.

If I close the SD2 window, then save and close the SONAR project, then
re-open the SONAR project and click on an audio track as before, I get the
same message when the SD2 window comes up.

I haven't entered any paths after the new installation.

Everything else behaves the same as before. No sounds, no option to load a
preset kit, etc. etc.

And no .SD2 files anywhere.

I've got it resolved.

What I had to do was go to the settings page, then under "Library" select
"SL Avatar", then set the path to sounds there.

After I did that, I can now select "SL Avatar" at the top in the box you
showed the picture of.

And I can select the individual drums now, yadda yadda.

So far, so good!

I am going to ask an obvious question, did you install the sounds?
There are two parts to the installation. One installs the Superior
Drummer 2.0 program and then (if all goes well) an automatic
installation of the sample library. Sometimes the automatic thing
doesn't work so well.

Your sounds have an obw extension. They should be in a folder structure
similar to Toontrack>Superior 2>SL-Avatar>Sounds. Each sound file will
be similar to "soundb1.obw" and so on.

Yeah, the .obw files were there even the first time through.

I just didn't know how to have the program pointed to them....until now.
