Replaced the tach sensor unit on my Yanmar 3JH2E. It had gotten severely rusted -- likely from some saltwater weepage -- and during the engine survey the mechanic suggested replacing it before it became impossible to remove. It's a tight space, and almost got my ratcheting wrenches permanently stuck in there... twice! Upon removal it was clear the threads were fine though, so it probably could have been left alone. Installed the new one anyway, since I already had it. Took about an hour total. (Would've been less time if I hadn't gotten the wrenches stuck!)
The part needs a 24 mm wrench when new. Had to use a 1 inch wrench to remove the old one, as the rust had increased its size a bit.

Thank you Mickey! It's good to have some perspective... I was recently thinking how grungy the engine is looking. =^D
