Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone has information about how the CR 34's standing rigging was tuned when leaving the factory. Looking for a baseline reference of how the rig was intended to be tuned. In particular, my mast has quite a bit of forward rake and I'm wondering if that's intentional.

Best,
Chuck

Is your entire mast raked forward or does it have forward bend just at the top? Perhaps you should have a sailmaker/rigger take a look and make recommendations for your specific situation.
I have never checked with CR, and there may be people here who will say I'm wrong, but in my humble opinion, forward rake (especially forward mast bend) on a Marconi rig is usually in error, or is an attempt to compensate for improperly cut sails. And aft rake will help the boat naturally round up (preferred) vs. head down in gusts, when close hauled.

Cheers
Dave

Chuck if you cannot find the original numbers I might suggest you watch this video I am attaching.  It is quite good and I think the principles explained will work with pretty much any boat.  My mast is currently on blocks undergoing a complete re-do and intend to set it back up in accordance with the principles described here in.  It does a good job of describing the rake at the top section of the mast and how it affects weather helm.

I hope it helps.
