This had been long ago discussed in this problem whether it is to be traced to Valmikiramayana and there were split opinions among traditionalists maintaining it should be there in Valmiki Ramayana, while in any of the published editions it was not trace.

Here is a link to the problem:

found on the net. Now, about Hanumannataka, it has got many many verses from the popular Rama plays, from Mahanataka of Bhavabhuti, Anargharaghava of Murari and Balaramayana of Rajashekhara as  have noticed many. It is the same with another small छायानाटक aslo compiled with verses from many other popular plays. There has been  opinion that this हनुमन्नाटक also could have been a छाया नाटक considering its structure distinct from the normal plays and probably of its extended version beyond the maximum Anka-s, 10 to15 in different versions, it got the name महानाटक.

Hope the verse would be traced to Ramayana this time at last.

Dear Dr. Bhat,

Thanks for the link:

You gave a specific form to my approximate recollection.

Dr. Pradip Bhattacharya, now a retired I.A.S. officer, is a researcher by hobby. The way he has pursued the problem should be a lesson to young Sanskritists in research methodology.

Does anyone have access to a modern Sanskrit/Bengali epic Diinaaja-pura-raaja-va.m;sa written by Mahe;sa-candra Tarka-cuu.daa-ma.ni? I know that the prefatory verses of this epic are in Skt. I am not sure about the language of the rest. If the dates match, the verse api svar.namayii ... may have been taken from one of Mahe;sa-candra Tarka-cuu.daa-ma.ni's works and engraved  on one of the entrances to the Dakshineshwar Kali temple.

Dear Sirs,

The verse "api swaraNamayI laMkaa...." is neither available in the text of Valmeeki with various readings nor in two two recessions of HhanUmannaaTaka. Hence i request the learned lore to explore this matter with a wider sweep of literature.

regards

ganesh

These links are provided by a member of another group. The first link specifically mentions the edition in which the second half occurs.

This sloka is seen in the edition published by Hindi Prachara Press, Madras in 1930 by T.R. Krishna chary, Editor and T. R. Vemkoba chary the publisher.

But it doesn't have the first half usually found quoted with it. May some other editions or manuscripts  may have it. Need to be checked in the Critical Edition interpolated verses.
