I had a script go bad during the weekend and got banned.
I have rewritten the script so it shouldn't happen again.
Was wondering if it's possible to get unbanned.

I have checked again, I can assure you that 88.214.225.169 is not found in our ban database, but the message you are seeing is certainly from our rate limiter.

You can see here there is no trace of that IP, not even any records for downloads... I can't help you if the IP address is not in the database :)

replace "http://browscap.org/stream?q=PHP_BrowscapINI" with "http://api.ipify.org/" around line 102 in browscap.php

Delete the cache/browscap.ini file

Next run the update and see what is in your browscap.ini as it should be the IP address that is asking for the update.

Be sure you change the information back before continuing.

Off hand, I think that will replace the browscap.ini file with your IP address, however, I might be mistaken.

Hi YuM,

We highly recommend (and even more so if you have a high volume of traffic) that you do not check for browscap updates per request. The recommendation is that you disable update checking on your application, and run a background check once a day e.g. on a cron to check for updates. The browscap/browscap-php component allows for that easily.

Running out of 32gb of memory is almost certainly not browscap itself fault, considering the browscap.org server itself manages to parse the full ini just fine, and it has only 1gb of memory ;) We do have problems with memory usage at the moment, but it is not so bad that it would consume 32gb of memory. You still have not given me an IP, and as such I can't do anything about the ban. Did you try Moose's suggestion to get your proper external IP?

IP is correct.

My script get browscap.ini from [http://browscap.org/stream?q=PHP_BrowsCapINI] using PHP file_get_contents function.
But, the browscap.ini contains only "Rate limit exceeded. You have been permantly banned for abuse."

Another site successfully got in the same way.

I downloaded manually and soleved for now.

Please ensure you are using the most recent version of browscap-php (https://github.com/browscap/browscap-php) which is 2.0.4. Note that we do not support the version from https://github.com/GaretJax/phpbrowscap.

Also, I highly recommend you do not check for updates on every request (set doAutoUpdate to false), and you set up a background process (e.g. cron) to check for updates.

The IP address you have given me has now been unbanned.

Interestingly, the ban that I removed was not for today, but for 26th September. I checked all those IPs, we only have info on 92.61.33.12 - are you sure you don't have requests coming from another source? Also make sure you remove any locally cached files (browscap.ini and cache.php)

Hi Chris,

You did receive another temporary ban yesterday from 18:00:09 GMT - but that should be fine now.

I suggest you reduce the rate at which you check - for example, you should only need to check http://browscap.org/version or http://browscap.org/version-number once a day, and only when the version changes should you download a new version.
