I downloaded the latest and greatest full_php_browscap.ini however i'm unable to detect if a user has Flash installed.
I notice an entry for "Shockwave Flash" ( its only in the "Full" version ). However its not passed back to php in the get_browser call.
Should i be using an alternative way to read the file? thx, matt

I don't think you can detect whether Flash is installed from parsing user agent strings. You need to detect that client-side by enumerating the list of plugins in the browser.
