Greetings Boone NC FHC group members! I've enjoyed meeting each of you and working and learning together in our workshops over the past few months. Going forward, we plan to host workshops each spring and fall. In the meantime, there are other opportunities to learn and connect with others interested in family history and genealogy at the public library in Boone on the last Friday of each month at 3pm.

Also, I will post things I learn about from time to time and invite you to let us know of things you have discovered. You can also post questions you have and we invite all in the group to offer help to one another.

One resource that Pam pointed out just before our workshop last night is the emails lists you can join at rootsweb.com. These forum-style email lists are another wonderful way to connect with others who are researching in areas of interest to you and to connect with a larger genealogy community. To join or find out more about the lists, go to http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ Don't be thrown off by seeing ancestry.com as part of the web address. Ancestry bought rootswebs some years ago, but the rootsweb aspect of ancestry is still free. When you get to the website, you will see, just under the search boxes, several headings and lists. Find Mailing Lists in the first column. You can click on the top link to search for a list about a specific surname, location, or topic. Or you can click the index to see all lists. Or perhaps you'd like to subscribe to the ROOTS-L list which is for general purpose genealogy stuff. All are helpful. Thank you for sharing, Pam!
