Improvements for CPU temperature sensation

Dear all,

   We have this suggestion to improve the way of throttling the CPU.

So instead of throttling the CPU directly once the temperature is 45C, we can give the user a warning when it reaches 40C, and advice him to give it a rest, if no action is taken, then we go ahead and throttle the CPU once it reaches 40C

.

This will give the user more control, and increase the trust between BOINC and the user, as  the user can sense and acknowledge that we are looking after the devices' resources.

What are your thoughts about this suggestion?

I think most people do not want the app to interrupt what they are doing to notify them of something, but instead want the app to operate seamlessly in the background.  Maybe the notification could have details about battery temp and CPU throttling to maintain healthy temperature. There could be a slider which would dictate how aggressive the computation is.  Lowest setting would be limited to one core, 20% CPU. Highest setting would increase heat tolerance, drive CPU full speed, we would warn that this may degrade battery life over time. Only suggested for phones which are no longer in active use etc.
