Using Yeelight bulbs?

Not sure if this is still active or not (if not, maybe someone can direct me to an active project), but Xiaomi has similar lights to Philips Hue which are much cheaper. They're called Yeelight, and they have an Open API here: https://www.yeelight.com/en_US/developer . I was wondering if there were a way to have Ambilight with Kodi using Yeelight.
