Hello,

Could somebody double-check our documentation:

For bob extensions (after the pkgutils migration), still makes sense?

Thanks, A

PS: Related, would anyone double-check these packages are still useful/work ok?

https://github.com/bioidiap/bob.project.example (particularly important, as it is used on the documentation above as a basis)

Hi André,

Follow below the current status

- bob.extension: I did just a minor update in the documentation

- bob.project.example: This one was deadly old. Follow below my updates:
  - Upgrade to bob 2.0.x (added the pkgutils upgrade)
  - Fixed the eventual bugs
  - Added the project on travis-ci
  - Tagged a v2.0.0 version

xbob.paper.example: Deadly old. The update is on the way.

xbob.example.lda: Deadly old. The update is on the way.

Hi Andre, Tiago,

the bob.project.example is outdated and superseded by bob.example.project, bob.example.extension and bob.example.library, the three of which are inside the bob.extension package:
https://github.com/bioidiap/bob.extension/tree/master/examples
as well as they are integrated into its documentation:
https://www.idiap.ch/software/bob/docs/latest/bioidiap/bob.extension/master/guide.html#anatomy-of-a-buildout-python-package
https://www.idiap.ch/software/bob/docs/latest/bioidiap/bob.extension/master/extension.html#c-or-c-python-packages

These packages are up to date (I did that yesterday) and they are tested to work in the nose tests of bob.extension.
Thank you, Tiago, for updating the docs (which I probably had forgotten).

Bottom-line: the bob.project.example should be **removed** or at least deprecated.
AFAIR, the other two packages were related to a paper that was never published. I am not sure if we need to keep them at all. If yes, please make sure:
- that they are updated as well,
- that they are turned into the bob namespace (not xbob, as it is currently),
- that they are integrated into bob.nightlies and
- that they are linked on the package list: https://github.com/idiap/bob/wiki/Packages (there is a section at the bottom for example packages).

Cheers
Manuel

Ehm, yes, I forgot:

bob.example.faceverify is well integrated and up to date. It is in bob.nightlies and tested on Travis and GitLab CI.
Pavel also adapted the namespace in that package, and pushed a new version on PyPI.

Hey Manuel,

I saw your update on bob.extension, thanks for it.
Regarding to the package bob.project.example, I agree, we should delete it.
Does anyone oppose?

--

I just upgraded and tagged the bob.example.lda (green on travis https://travis-ci.org/bioidiap/bob.example.lda).
Honestly, I don't know what to do with this package.

Shall we publish on PyPI and add it on our nightly builds (so we keep track on it)?
Is this package useful to someone?

--

The package xbob.paper.example (https://github.com/bioidiap/bob.paper.example) is outdated too.
Furthermore has an outdated dependency (https://github.com/bioidiap/xbob.mlp.lbfgs).
I need to look carefully on these packages in order to estimate the effort to upgrade them.

Best Regards

No opposition.

For the other package, please check if we don't use it in our (only) paper!

Cheers, A
