show word count

Is there any way to turn on a word count feature for the word processing type view? It would be immensely helpful since each blog post or Web page is supposed to be X00 to Y00 words. I'm used to things like FocusWriter which will keep a running count, percent of daily/hourly objective, etc. at the bottom. I get on rolls then have to split things up into multiple posts.
