I am using Archlinux, and the latest build of Bluegriffon appears to crash when I attempt to use any of the Pull-down menus at the top of the window.  It crashes with this error:

##!!! ABORT: X_CreatePixmap: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation); 4 requests ago: file /home/glazou/trees/official1.7/toolkit/xre/nsX11ErrorHandler.cpp, line 157
###!!! ABORT: X_CreatePixmap: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation); 4 requests ago: file /home/glazou/trees/official1.7/toolkit/xre/nsX11ErrorHandler.cpp, line 157
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I have this issue on three different machines.

I have deleted the ~/.disruptive innovations sarl folder and the problem persists.

I would be happy to provide further debugging information as necessary.

Thanks,

Rett Walters

Hi Rett,

I get the same crashes and error messages on my system: openSuSE 12.2, 32bit version, and would highly apreciate any solution.

Are you both using KDE by any chance?

OK. I have seen this error or similar elsewhere, I believe. Check whether your GTK theme is Oxygen, and if it is, change it to another one. I have only seen this error in relation to Firefox, and I don't use Archlinux, but the one thing that repeatedly comes up when searching for "ABORT: X_CreatePixmap: BadAlloc" is KDE, Oxygen GTK theme, and Firefox.

Hi Alex,
you were right: GTK and oxygen are to blame. I chose a different theme and no crashes anymore!
Thank you!

Alex thank you.

We went looking for Web Design GUI apps. The most recommended is Kompozer.

But its menus were all corrupted.

Then we found BlueGriffon, but it crashed when you tried accessing a dropdown menu.

Hmmm.

Then I found this site.

Themes!

Not Desktop Themes, but Application Appearance Themes:

In openSUSE 13.1:

Kickoff > Configure Desktop > Common Appearance and Behavior > Application Appearance > GTK

Change Oxygen to anything else, problem solved. For BOTH BlueGriffon and Kompozer.

Thanks again. I would never have guessed.

Doesn't matter what theme I select, it still crashes in kubuntu-plasma5-15.04

I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04, did an install using synaptic, and Bluegriffon crashes whenever I click a menu.

I am away from my ubuntu box these days but I'll investigate when I'm

I just purchased and installed the Gold Version of the extensions (big mistake), and now I have the same behavior. Ubuntu 14.04, 64-bit. In addition, when accessing menus using Alt key, the back ground of all the pull-down menus is completely translucent showing whatever is behind it.

More info: changing themes affects behavior; some themes render menus almost invisisible, some themes causes BlueGriffon to crash, my current theme (selected using gnome-tweak-tool - unity-tweak-tool previously caused unity to become unstable so I am adverse to use it - unity has always been and still is very buggy) is Window: Radiance, GTK+: Radiance. With this theme, BlueGriffon is not crashing, and I can see menus, but shortcuts don't work. Summary: BlueGriffon is barely useable in 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04. It's unsure if it is a BlueGriffon problem, an Ubuntu/Unity problem, or both; I suspect both.

I'm not a Linux user but recall seeing references to theme clashes in
some distros mentioned in this group (or it may have been the GIMP
User mail list). It could be worth a search through old posts here, to
see if you can track down references to the issue.

All

I believe that the original errors (ABORT: X_CreatePixmap: BadAlloc) relate to Gecko (the rendering engine) and Oxygen GTK* themes.  It seems to happen sometimes in Firefox, Thunderbird and a number of other programs that use Gecko, such as these bug reports:-

Firefox - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985986
Zotero - https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/31858/zotero-standalone-408-and-4011-crashes-in-fedora-19-linux-when-any-menu-is-selected/
Palemoon Browser - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=181476
Pencil (which uses xulrunner) - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=1049987

* NOT the Gnome/Unity/KDE theme.  There are 1 or 2 Window Managers/Desktop Managers that use GTK as their main theme.  If I'm not mistaken, XFCE does, and I think that IceWM, JWM and a couple of others.

I think it would be a help if those people who are still having problems after changing the GTK theme from Oxygen check their error logs to see if it actually is the same problem.  This solution definitely fixed the problem on mine and other people's computers.  The original problem was reported by people with 32 bit.  The people reporting now, seem to be 64 bit.  I have always tended to use really old computers, so until recently, didn't use 64 bit.  I will try it tonight.
