DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION
FACT SHEET

PRODUCT NAME: Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100

OVERVIEW:

The Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100 is a high performance Ethernet
adapter that allows users of PCI bus architecture systems to connect
to 10 Mb/s or 100 Mb/s Ethernet networks. It also provides a cost-
effective migration path for existing Ethernet users planning to
upgrade to Fast Ethernet. Link speed selection is automatic.

The Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100 is designed to offer high data
throughput with low CPU utilization. Important when using compute-
intensive applications, this feature also provides potential cost
savings by allowing more client connections per server. All major
network operating systems are supported.

KEY FEATURES/BENEFITS:

High performance parallel Maximizes data throughput while
cut-through bus-master minimizing CPU utilization and
architecture thereby provides fast network file
transfers, etc., at either Ethernet
or Fast Ethernet speeds. Also
increases potential client/server
ratio, reducing system investment.

Automatic link speed Adapter automatically adjusts to 10
selection or 100 Mb/s network speeds,
eliminating the need to service the
desktop or server connections as
Fast Ethernet repeaters or switches
are added to the network.

Full duplex capable Provides up to twice normal network
bandwidth (20 Mb/s or 200 Mb/s)
when connected to full duplex
capable switches or used in point-
to-point connections. Useful for
demanding high bandwidth
applications such as video, file
transfer and system back-up
operations.

Ease of use and operation A unique install/configuration
utility makes installation easy. In
addition, the adapter has automatic
speed selection and full adherence
to the plug-and-play features of
the PCI bus. LEDs are provided for
visual diagnostics. All major
network operating systems are
supported. Driver software upgrades
are widely available on-line, e.g.,
CompuServe and the Internet.

Lifetime warranty The adapter carries a lifetime
warranty (subject to the terms and
conditions of the warranty
registration card). Adapter
investments are thereby protected.

Service and support The Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100 is
backed by Digital Equipment
Corporation's worldwide service and
support organization.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:

The Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100 can currently be used in Intel,
Alpha, POWERPC and MIPS platforms that are compliant with the PCI
Local Bus V2.0 specification and support PCI BIOS V2.0. The adapter
supports a 5 volt PCI bus master slot.

A single RJ45 connector is provided for attachment to unshielded
twisted pair wiring. TIA/EIA 568A Category 3, 4 & 5 twisted pair
wiring is acceptable for 10BaseT operation, however, TIA/EIA 568A
Category 5 twisted pair wiring must be used to support 100BASE-TX
operation, in accordance with the IEEE 802.3 100BASE-TX
specification.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

The following software drivers are shipped with each adapter for use
in Intel platforms: NetWare DOS ODI client, NetWare 3.x ODI server,
NetWare 4.x ODI server, DOS client, Windows 3.1, Windows for
Workgroups 3.11, OS/2 and SCO UNIX.

Windows NT support for all platforms is distributed with the
operating system and supported directly by Microsoft.

OpenVMS and OSF/1 support is currently available on Alpha platforms.
Support on individual Alpha platforms will be announced
independently.

PRICING/AVAILABILITY:

The Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100 (DE500-XA) is priced at $249 each.
Volume shipments will commence in Q2, calendar year 1995.
