Internal updater for subsequent versions of BitCurator?

Hi. I have downloaded BC 1.3.1. Is there a way to have subsequent releases update through the Software Updater within the BC interface, or is it necessary to download 

each release? 

If each release needs to be downloaded, I would need to put the disk images in the Shared folder to save them from being removed when I delete the older version.
