I've run into a problem with viewing/exporting an image's contents when I'm using the Disk Image Access Tool. It seems that if I image a disk (in this case a CD-R and some DVDs) that contains only one file, nothing shows up in the viewer after I select the Image to open. For example, I have a CD-R that has a .ppt file burned onto it. I can mount the actual CD and open/view the file, and there was no issue imaging the disk, but when it came time to export, nothing showed up on the list. I've experienced this problem with both .aff and .e01 image formats.

I've also noticed that this happens with DVDs that have single video files burned onto them (like a .mp4 or .wmv or whatever). I've noticed that disk images that have only one file can't be extracted when I'm using Archivematica either (I ran a SIP through today that composed of 4 disk images, when I reviewed the AIP only the contents of 3 had been extracted, the image containing the single file slipped by). So I'm not sure if this is a problem specific to BitCurator, but I'm hoping someone might have an idea what to do...

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

Basic question: did you see a black carrot beside the name of the disk image? Normally you have to click the carrot to expand the filesystem. It's not always super obvious.

I've attached a screen shot. This is all that shows up after I upload the .aff
There should be an .mp4 to export.

When you created the disk image, did it split into multiple images? Such as, .e01, .e02, etc.? If so, that may be the issue when you try to open it in Disk Image Access. To get only one disk image file that isn't split, re-image and change the Split size option from MB to PiB.

Hi Lauren,

Can you send me a copy of the image containing the single file, or place it somewhere where I can download it? This is likely a bug, but it's easier to track down if I have the original test case.

Kam

Hey Kam, should I upload the disk images onto this thread or should I send them to you some other way?

Hi Lauren,

I've shared a DropBox folder with you. Let me know offlist (kamw...@gmail.com) if you're unable to get to it.

Hi Kam and Lauren,

I wonder if there was a resolution to this problem that either of you could share? We've been running into the same challenge with some CD-Rs we've been imaging - we actually assumed it was an issue with the disk images themselves, not the mounting software. Any insight would be really helpful!

Thanks,
Heidi
