Our sys admin asked me to post the following message:

"I am continuing to have a problem with the NFS mount.  If I try to mount everything in /etc/fstab, I get a message that there is nothing to mount.  If I specifically try to mount the remote NFS server, I get no error message (even with the verbose flag), but nothing happens.  I think there may be something preventing the mount, for security purposes (but it's not the firewall, since that is not active). "

BitCurator is up and running fine as the sole partition (we ditched Windows, because we had no need for it with our workstation), but is not allowing NFS mount for some reason. Any idea how we can fix this?

Thanks,
Jarrett

Hi Jarrett,

There are only a few changes to how mounts are handled in the BitCurator environment. First, there's a line in:

/etc/udev/rules.d/fstab.rules

That forces all mounts to go through the rbfstab script (/usr/sbin/rbfstab), which ensures read-only mounting (also, +loop to protect journals). This is a slightly modified version of the script originally used by the CAINE environment. Your admin may need to make some changes (or disable it - warning, this will disable automatic read-only protection on all devices, but that may or may not be an issue for you) depending on what she or he is trying to do.

Other than that, the BitCurator environment should have the same NFS setup requirements as regular Ubuntu 14.04LTS (see the client part of this page - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNFSHowTo). We don't perform any kind of NFS-related customization, ourselves.

Hope this helps!

Kam
