Hello,

We have z/VM Version 5 Release 4.0, service level 1201 (64-bit) Generated
at 10/25/12 17:33:21 MES and run now on a 2096-J01.

All runs fine but we cannot upgrade z/VM to V6 on this CPU.

Now we think about upgrading to a BC12 / I 01.

Can our z/VM 5.4 run without modfications in the BC12 ? If not, which ptfs
would we need to install ?

Our Backup-provider is upgrading from a z196-m32 (where our z/VM runs fine)
to a Z13.
AS long as we are on our 2096-J01 with z/VM 5.4, what must we do to run
successfullyour z/VM 5.4 on the backup-Z13 ?

Please inform me.
Many thanks before.

with best regards
Gerhard Tatschl

We have z/VM v5.4 running on a zBC12, but did install some fixes for the hardware. (See the zBC12 bucket) I think most were for EREP and IOCP.

Hello, Frank

Many thanks.

I found the packages for z/VM and z/VSE -searching with "2828 DEVICE" (for
BC12) and "2965 DEVICE" (for Z13).

with best regards
Gerhard

Hello Gerhard,

When we moved z/VM 5.4 from Z114 to zBC12 I made the mistake of not reading carefully  Upgrade 2828DEVICE, Subset 2828/ZVM and I missed an APAR.

That mistake cause the system to crash right after IPL on the new zBC12, causing a virtual heart attack. Using the local IBM branch help and sending the dump to IBM we discovered and  installed the missing APAR.

So please read carefully and apply all APARS that are relevant.

Hello, Avihu

Many thanks for Your hint !

We discussed testing our z/VM on a Z13 (our backup-cpu) without installing
any vm-apars and see what happens - so considering Your hint we will not
realize this.

with best regards
Gerhard
