You would need an OPTICA Prizm FICON to ESCON converter. There may be some in the used market as shops get rid of the last of their ESCON devices. I tried e-bay, but nothing there.

Hi Ken,
I don´t know of any 2216 comparable device nowadays.

Ficon to escon converters are quite expensive and adds another failure point in the network. Have you considered replacing the 2216 with a comparable ficon attached device? Would be newer technology, lower support costs etc Would probably be in the same price range as converter

You´re right, it´s just comfortable for the moment ..
Yes, I know I will end up (next step) in a new configuration directly into the CPU, via OSA / TCP / TN daemon.
But, my concerns, what about exposing IBM cpu to the world out there? , what’s the net reconfig effort (including the 3270 emulators IP update)? How long will it take?
Actually 2216 receives all 3270 emulators traffic, isolates the ‘trash’, and route the acceptable stuff to a VTAM XCA connection.

It occurs to me that use this router is not for TN3270 sessions. I may be that they’re just comfortable with the setup of the existing router and don’t care to undertake reconfiguring the network at this time.

Just TN3270 traffic? 2216 not handling any SNA?

Subject: RES: FICON ESCON Conversion
Helio, we did this conversion from a 2212 IBM router recently and your environment sounds very similar to ours.
Our network administrator setup a standard Mikrotik router in place of the 2212. Our mainframe is a different
Subnet from our network, so the 2212 was basically a gateway routing traffic between the 2 subnets.
Once they setup the routing tables in the Mikrotik, we were good to go.
