Dear all -

Next Wednesday 25th May Medical Museion is opening living artwork Heirloom by artist-scientist duo Gina Czarnecki and John Hunt. Heirloom grows cell portraits of Gina's daughters from their own stem cells onto glass casts of their faces, and the simplified system developed to grow the cells in the gallery could lead to future techniques for both DIYbio and regenerative medicine.

On the 27th and 29th, Gina Czarnecki and another of her scientist collaborators Rod Dillon are hosting hands-on workshops exploring the ingredients needed to care for living cells, and discussing how these techniques are accessed and regulated, in art, science, and DIY. It would be fab to have some DIY biologists participate, to bring your expertise and alternative perspectives on making biology public.

We'd also love to see (and hear from) some of you at the evening ethics debate on the 25th, discussing all these questions with the artists and an expert panel.

I'll also be presenting the project at CLICK - hope to meet some of you there! If you have any questions or comments, I'm on lo...@sund.ku.dk.

Very best,
Louise (Whiteley)
