TITLE: 3D Print your own medicine! By Mirela Alistar
ABSTRACT: Mirela’s dream of a future of democratic healthcare, where people will 3D print their own medication anytime anywhere. To get there, she has started with building a personal lab: a small portable device that can be easily configured to run biological experiments. Think of a tablet or notebook, just, instead of operating with information bits, it operates with cells and reagents embedded in droplets.

BIO: Mirela Alistar is a Post-doc at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute in the human-computer interaction lab of Prof. Patrick Baudisch. She received a PhD in computer engineering from the Technical University of Denmark in 2014. Her main research interests are in the area of system-level design of embedded systems, with a special focus on digital microfluidics. She is supporting open access research and she has organized citizen-science events, where she disseminates to the public with the aim of involving them into creating more knowledge.
