For those of you interested in doing some microbiome work, uBiome is offering an incredible 5-for-1 deal, valid until Monday only! They normally charge $89 for one sample, so with their 5-for-1 deal, that drops down to only about $18 per sample!

The sequence the 16S ribosomal genes from a mixed sample of bacteria, and send you the sequences of the hundreds or thousands of different bacteria they find in the sample.

Want to know what grows in your mouth? Want to sequence a couple different kombucha starters? Want to sequence a wild crafted vinegar? Want to sequence 5 stinky vs 5 non-stinky armpits? $18 each...

If there is enough interest, we can pool some money to buy a bunch of kits, and do a real projects as a group. This might be a good time to do a test run for the Kombucha Sequencing Project, for example...

Your bacteria work hard, and so do you. It's time to celebrate!

Many of you wrote in after our last "5 microbiome kits for the price of 1" offer,   saying that you missed out and wanted us to repeat the sale.

We heard you!

Here's your chance to meet all the bacteria currently living in your gut, and also learn about your mouth, nose, skin, and genital microbiomes at the same time.

Starting now, a 5-site microbiome testing kit is just $89 instead of the usual $399.

Offer valid
until Monday only (or while supplies last.)

Use discount code 5FOR1YAY when you checkout at ubiome.com.

We salute all the hard work you and your bacteria do, and wish you a happy and relaxing Labor Day weekend.

Love,
Your friends at uBiome

What kinds of things would you like to sample, Sam?

If any of the Burning Man crew sees this - make sure to bring back some Playa dust for sampling!

Think BIG. These kits stay good for a while, so we should order a whole bunch of them, and build a real class around them.

If it comes down to it I'd go in for 2 kits to make sure it happens.

Does anyone have contacts at one of the local zoos? I don't think I've seen anyone do a zoo microbiome yet,  and that's something we may be able to get their scientists interested in as well.

I do think we should be talking about how many *sets* of 5 we should get,  not nickel-and-dime about single samples. I plan to buy at least two sets for CCL. But I think we could easily run a class with 20 people, and charge each $20 to sequence a sample of interest. Maybe tie it into the soil sampling workshop we did a while back.

Water sampling would be another nice opportunity. Good excuse to take a sailboat out on the Bay for some hands-on science...

I have done water quality monitoring in different creeks, although that's not exactly the bay...
