The project was dormant for half a year while we waited for makers to send in their part of the chair. A few months ago we decided we want to finish it and we printed the rest of the parts between our self at BinarySpace. Last night we assembled the final pieces.
The end result is a very colorful 3d printed chair. Because of the different printers used in this build (from your basic small hobbyist
printers to your fancier more expensive printers), the parts vary a bit in size and texture. Some of the parts cracked due to low infil and not fitting correctly. We think this gives the chair a lot of character and we like it this way. It's a nice representation of the various printers in the country. It's a nice makers chair. Also because of the various materials and infill amount it's not the most functional chair (we are too scared to sit on it), but it does make for an amazing art piece :) We are planning on covering the chair with clear resin to make it stronger.
The idea behind the chair moving forward is to display it at various maker exhibitions and shows (For example the upcoming makers corner at Decorex). This is a great display of how many awesome makers we have in South Africa and how everybody comes together to create great things.
Thanks to everyone who contributed a piece to this chair. We have another similar project in the planning stages and hope to create another master piece with various makers across South Africa.
Thanks,
Tom Van den Bon
