Good afternoon,

The Charlotte Department of Transportation is leading an effort in partnership with Charlotte Center City Partners to develop the Uptown Urban Trail Connections Study. The goal of this study is to identify challenges to and solutions for cycling and walking through Uptown between existing and future greenways and urban trail facilities.

The City is working with a consultant to evaluate options to connect the Little Sugar, Irwin and Stewart Creek greenways. This study also evaluates linking the South End and Uptown segments of the Rail Trail and the future Mooresville to Charlotte Trail. This study will recommend a comprehensive bicycle network.

On Tuesday through Thursday, June 14-16, a series of stakeholder interview sessions and walking tours will be held to obtain public input and ideas. These small group sessions will provide an opportunity to review public support for additional bicycle facilities and potential bicycle infrastructure locations.

You are invited to sign up for a stakeholder interview session, a walking tour and the wrap up session. The following are the days and times each are being held. Please sign up at Sign Up Genius located here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d45aaac2baaff2-uptown.

Dear bike enthusiasts and urbanist friends,

I thought you might like to know about the Uptown Urban Trail Connections Study, an effort led by CDOT to make center city more pedestrian and bike friendly. The study will ultimately make recommendations for a comprehensive bike network, including a potential connection of the Uptown and South End portions of the Rail Trail. (woo!)

They’re hosting several workshops next week to get feedback and you all are definitely people they would like to hear from. I signed up for the Tuesday workshop at 1 pm and the walking tour at 4 pm. I hope you’ll join me and help spread the word!

Have a good weekend,

Varian Shrum
