Greetings,

My 1992 First 310 has a cabin-top mounted traveler.  There are plastic rollers where the line makes a right angle into the cam cleats on each end.  Unfortunately, at some point those rollers bound up and the line burned a 5/16” channel into them which now chafes the line pretty badly.  Must have been an adrenaline-pumped main trimmer on a heavy air night Smile

The end fittings appear to be cast with no visible disassembly points.  I’m sure there’s a way to fix this without installing a whole new traveler system.  Anyone replaced their roller or perhaps the cams who could comment on the process?

Thanks in advance,

Chris Hubbell

Chris, send me an email address and I can send you pictures of what I did. Basically replaced the sheaves and changed out the integral cleats because the factory cleats are not available.

PS, I located an email that I sent to ward at beneteau detailing all the parts and procedures. Piece of cake and beats buying a new traveller.

THANK YOU!  Yes, travelers appear to have a particularly high marine tax...  Happy NOT to replace it.

Chris

I had a similar problem with my F310 in 2006.  Replaced with a Garhauer unit.  I was very satisfied.  I had a curved traveler beam made by Garhauer, associated pulleys and cam cleats, and I machined a bit off the Amoit Mounts at a friend’s shop.  Not a big deal, but you or friends has to have some mechanical skills, measuring drilling etc.  I have my drawings and communications with them if you want them.  Send me your e-mail address.

Contact me directly - off list if interested.

Just wanted to add this information for future reference...  Rig Rite appears to not only stock replacement ends, but also a custom replacement which is fabricated from SS, and uses Ronstan carbon fiber sheaves and a slick cleat arrangement.  I haven’t requested quotes yet, but it would allow me to upgrade to double-sheaves for increased purchase.  Above 20 kts of wind and its very hard to play the traveler in puffs with the 310’s stock purchase configuration.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far – much appreciated!
