Sacrafisical zinc

I am putting a sacrificial zinc over the side.
Can it be attached to negative on battery?

Yes, I have done it with great success . 

I have a second one attached to one of the standing rigging they are attached to your keel via chain plates.

That protect your keel boats as well as directs the lighting into the water rather than through your boat.
