"Reader Privacy" is the ability to browse without having your activity logged. For the same reason that librarians protect the privacy of book checkouts, it's important that browsers and services do the same for users.

Reader Privacy is not the default for Dat & Beaker, as Max explains, but he lays out some great ideas for how we can address the problem.
