Hello all, I gave my old (Angstrom) BBB to a friend, and purchased new one, which apparently comes with Debian. I need to get that *&(%^ off of there and get a proper embedded OS onto it so I can run C/C++ programs and use device trees.

Has anyone noticed that the win32 disk imager doesn't seem to work in windows 8.1? Is there a fix for that?
Has anyone noticed that the beaglebone drivers don't recognize properly in windows 8.1? I can't even tell which device it is to apply the drivers manually: Integrated USB bridge, Unknown USB Device, or USB Input Device.

You can grab the latest "signed" windows driver from here:

I'm curious. What is your definition of a "proper embedded OS" ?

There really isnt anything wrong with the shipped debian os. I have a custom angstrom build i have been using for a long time with some networking options and a loadable module i made/am making.

I borrowed a friends win7 laptop and my image copied perfectly on the first try. Im just bitter that win 8.1 seems to fail and waste time in so many ways.

Word of advice ? Use a linux system to do all this sort of work with. Can't afford more hardware ? Use a virtual machine . . . That hp, or whatever image writer app is ancient, going back before XP even I think. Anyway, with a Linux machine, this could be done with std command line tools. Namely, dd.

BTW, Im responding from an Windows 8.1 x64 system . . . which is what I run on my latest "desktop". Just so you know I'm not trying to be biased again Windows.
