The Department of Biology at SF State seeks an instructor for the second half of the semester for a Fall Bioinformatics class, 10/18 - 12/13. There are two sections, Tu/Th 9am-11am and Tu/Th 11am-1pm). Each section has 12 undergrads and 12 Master’s students. The first half of the semester is taught by Prof. Scott Roy. Previously, Scott Roy mostly focused on perl, the command line and online tools and Pleuni Pennings focused on R in the second half of the semester. We are looking for a replacement for Prof Pennings because she is on maternity leave this semester.
Ph.D. required, teaching experience preferred. A complete set of teaching materials can be provided. Depending on candidate experience and interests, a short-term 'teaching postdoc' position including teaching and research duties is possible. Please email your CV and a short statement on your motivation and teaching experience to scot...@gmail.com or penn...@sfsu.edu.
SF State is has a very diverse student population, with many underrepresented minority students and first generation college students. The biology department has 45 tenured or tenure/track professors spanning all areas of biology. Many of the students in the bioinformatics class have no prior coding experience.
For full consideration please apply by August 18th.
