Hi all,

I am working on the Android application for a 3d printer control. The idea is to have a touchscreen controller that can manually test the printer and can print GCode files loaded from an SD card, from a google drive etc.  After some debates, the official name is "3D Printer Buddy".
The application will run on android device from version 3.1 and up. It will use an external low cost board which is responsible for two things. First it is making the USB to serial connection from the Android device to the printer. Second it is powering the android device so it does not rely on its batteries (like in GCodePrinter for instance).
No USB host support is needed so the application will support more low cost Android tablets and phones.

For my testing I am using my KISStrap which is using PrintrBoard. PrintrBoard have a serial port on one of its expansion connectors and I intend to use it for the connection to the Android.  I've spent some time today figuring out how to activate the second serial port to no avail.
Any ideas how to do that?

Thank you
Zohar

Hi, Zohar

Looking forward to your software!  I think tablets make perfect sense for running printers locally, or over IP.  I'm wondering when slicers for Android will pop up.

I did find this that might help : http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?1,197085,page=2 .

Also, is any of this stuff useful?  I know these aren't printer boards, but the firmware side should help, save the pin assignments that differ.
