Fellow Rubyists:

I am coming to Barcelona the first week in July.  It looks like I will miss your regular meetings, but I was wondering if I could maybe talk at least a few of you into joining me for dinner some night when I'm there.  Would anyone be interested in that?

Absolutely!

If people feel like it we could even move the meeting of June or July, it would be an honor to have you as guest.

What do you guys think?

I hate to make you change your schedule on my account.  If you're sure people wouldn't mind though, I would love to come to a meeting!

Hi James,

we're glad you want to visit our user group, I think instead of moving the meeting maybe we could have an extra one when you come.

Would you like to speak to our members? I think that would be fantastic if you're interested.

As for dinner I think we'd need to arrange something and make a reservation if we're going to be a lot of people.

Do you have any type of dietary restrictions? We could take you to some local food restaurant.

If you could provide us more info about the exact dates, we could have a doodle for the event which we can also post in our meetup group. http://www.meetup.com/Barcelona-on-Rails

Cheers

You are the third group to ask me that.  Let me see if I have time to work up a talk over the next couple of weeks.  I'll get back to you.

A meeting is more fun than dinner.  Let's do Ruby instead.

The best day for me would be sometime on July 5th.  Is that too weird to have a Ruby meeting on a Sunday?

Hi!

We know preparing a talk means a huge amount of work for you. If there's something you'd like to reuse for example that would be fine, but anyway just hanging around, talking Ruby, and having you in the group would be super super squared :).

PS: In case someone in the mailing list doesn't fully understand this email, have a look for example at this awesome talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cdbx1BmboQ.

I can ask Xing, if it's ok to do it in our offices, but since it's a Sunday it may be complicated due to the security in the building.

Any other offers to host the event?

Hi there,

I will come too!

At itnig we would love to host the meeting, but I’m afraid that setting it up on a Sunday might stop a good deal of people from coming.

What about Monday 6th?

I leave Barcelona the morning of the 6th, so it's definitely out.

I could probably do the 2nd, but I'll have been awake 30 some hours straight that day and may not be super fun to talk to.  :)

I could also maybe do midday on the 4th, but I have plans that evening.

The 5th is definitely the best option for me, but I'm willing to negotiate if it's a logistical nightmare.

Hi there,

Let’s stick to the 5th then, no problem! I’ll book our events room, although I don’t think this should be a problem :P

Which time do you have in mind? Maybe the afternoon would be better?

For the RoR group: it would be nice to have a way to know how many people is going to come, and secure that we are going to be enough people. Any ideas?

See you soon and have a safe trip!

Hi James,

7pm sounds perfect, it’s a good time in Barcelona. Summer hits pretty hard in Barcelona so meeting earlier would not be as good.

See you soon!

We usually coordinate activities through Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/Barcelona-on-Rails/).  I can create an event there if you want, or make you an event organiser if you prefer.

Hi James,

The place is itnig, a startup accelerator in the Poblenou district. The street is Alaba 61, 5-2, near the Bogatell and Llacuna stations on the yellow line.

Hi,

We should be able to fit 40-50 people without any problem in the events room, so I don’t think there should be any problem :)

Can anyone create the event?

Thank you so much!

Sorry for the delay,

I'll create the event and send out invitations to the group.  James, now that we've talked you into presenting, do you have a title that we could use?  And more generally, I've got to put something in the meeting title, and that could be anything from the title of a talk to "Hang out with James Gray".  And what's the format?

Feel free to email me off-list if that makes more sense.

Happy hacking,

/David

My talk is called, "Objects, No Really."  I'm finishing it up right now.

I leave marketing in your capable hands.

My plan is to give a talk.  It'll take 45 minutes or so.

Anything else you want to do is fine by me, as long as I don't have to prepare for it.  :D

Thanks!
