I was using RR5.1 for my daily commute to office from Bellandur to Whitefield. Now my office is after Hebbal on airport road. That would be about 30kms from my house one way. I was considering if foldable bike can be an option for me. So my requirement is to be able to hop on to Volvo service whenever I want to with foldable bike. Is it feasible? Has any one tried to carry foldable bikes on Volvo? Any other ideas/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks
Vikas

My suggestion is to move to a place closer to your work and save the time for yourself and family and leave the road for others unless it is a temporary work place.

Of course, there are other factors in play, e.g. spouse working close to current stay. Kids cannot shift school immediately, etc. But in general, it is not worth living a life spending two hours (to-and-fro) in commute daily, which many Bangaloreans seem to be doing.

It is a very valuable aspect but unfortunately our city is not planned for that. It's a complex fabric.

I commented on your blog too, Suman. We should not be travelling unnecessarily. It just does not make sense A travels from P to Q and B travels from Q to P on a daily basis. A and B should swap places. But if both A and B are travelling from P to Q, then there must be a reason, such as Q not supporting settlement, which is a bit out of our hands.

I have colleagues in office who prefer travelling instead of letting out their flats/homes and staying on rent. That is plain irrational emotional decision, not a practical reason. If we are all happy travelling, we have to be happy suffering together.

Very true. Unplanned growth is compelling us to greater compromises.

Guys, thanks for the responses, I do agree with you to try to avoid the travel but since my wife is working near Bellandur one of us has to commute. I do think that the discussion has diverted in a different direction. My main intent was to understand the attitude of Volvo bus staff when you have foldable bike with you.

Mahesh seems to have said that he travels on Volvos with his foldie.

I would think that unless it's rush hour, when space on the bus might be an issue, they should be OK letting you get on with the foldie.

Well I have taken my brompton several times at around 9 am.
Apart from Volvo's, have taken it inside the following places without any issues
Jayanagar rto
Sanjay Gandhi hospital
Citibank mg road few times and other banks
Restaurants and hotels
Ganesh temple koramangala
Cabs and autos
Inside office premises (my own as well as others)

Being a novelty, I find the brompton receiving a lot of attention and the "shock" factor helps in taking it anywhere.
It is not practical to live near offices all the time so a foodie helps.
