I would look at which had the better frame I am assuming both are from local retail store so support would be the same.  Components should be similar but they can always get upgraded later.

Always get the best frame you can afford and upgrade.

Personally I would get the cannondale, they are more niche than trek, which is more mainstream - at least that's how it is in the US.

According to this link the cannondale is carbon while the trek is aluminum:

Hi,

I am also in the process of buying a road bike. I rode both the bikes. The caad is a wee bit lighter. I  liked the ride on the trek though. Also the 2011 trek has tiagra groupset. The caad has tiagra shifters but sora crankset and cassetes. The caads mrp is about 6k more than the trek.
The giant defy 2 2011 bike is out in 15 days. Its an all tiagra bike. Only brakes are sora. I think its available in the 50/39/30 front and 12-27 rear. The other two bikes are 50/34 and 12-26 rear. Also the sloping frame means more relaxed posture. Heard the price would be similar to trek 1.5.

How does one know which frame is better unless you have put in many many miles on it. The only other way is to listen to people who have. But its very difficult to find people who have tried all the options. What one can do is look at material used and frame geometry and take a decision.

You can also enter the name of the product in google followed by the
word "review" and you will be able to read plenty of reviews on
whatever your interested in.
