Finally, David Kaye's chance to grab the helm and guide the station

Yeah, I just heard that on Gil's show. Do you know whether he's
retiring or going to another job?

No wonder today Ronn put himself out on the limb by saying that KGO
should hire a full-time woman host.

Oh, then there's that Ronn just won a Marconi Award...Coincidence?

Of all the subject lines John could have picked. Why not "Luckoff
Signoff"

I wonder if there are any owners out there who would appreciate

He left because he did not like the Citadel people. He'll probably
retire and spend more time up at Tahoe where he's got another home.

I just hope that whoever replaces him is able to continue to bring
talent like John Rothman and Gil Gross to full time shows on KGO.

Whoever replaces him will more than likely be a "yes-man" to Farid.
Logically, people will last until their contracts run out, and then be
replaced with the bird or with infomercials.

Rothmann can go anytime. That would be an improvement.

There's no sign of that "note to staff" on KGO's website, but after
seeing some of the contents on the SF Business Times website, I'm
not surprised:

I recall first hearing Imus in NYC. He was a different person back then.
Not sure when he became such a wacko. I still have two of his albums
that I purchased back in the 1970's which are still very funny.

I'd advise that people who believe that this is the golden age of KGO start
saving as many archives from the KGO web page as you can. With New Citadel
(the reorganized out of bankruptcy Citadel) things are only going to go
downhill unless they do the right thing and promote someone from within to
keep the golden age of KGO going. (Translation: elevate Jack Swanson.)

I don't see that happening in the post-bankruptcy New Citadel world, though.

I agree, though I'm more inclined to two years. Did Citadel get the Dumbarton
property? That's probably not worth anything anyway, given that it's now
mostly preserved tidelands.

At one point WABC had no local origination except for some weekend gardening
shows and the like, which were probably barter. That's horrendous for
Citadel's flagship station. Now WABC has brought back some local content, but
not much.

Yep. It is likely that Citadel will first run its own syndie talkshows, then
fill the rest with the floor sweepings that Clear Channel hasn't already
placed on their own stations.

Here's the scenario I see. Pick any 8 shows at random and jam them into the
schedule...

Citadel (aka ABC Radio) syndie shows:

Focus on the Family
Mark Levin
MoneyTalk
Mike Huckabee
Imus in the Morning
America's Most Wanted
The John Batchelor Show
Perez Hilton
Doug McIntyre's Red Eye Radio
The Larry Kudlow Show

Premiere (CC) syndie leftovers:

Elvis Duran and the Morning Show
Steve Harvey Morning Show
John Boy & Billy
The Bob&Tom Show
Big D & Bubba
The Dan Patrick Show
The Glenn Beck Program
The Jim Rome Show
The Jason Lewis Show
The Keith Sweat Hotel
Delilah
Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx
After MidNite with Blair Garner
Dawson McAllister Late Nights

There was a time when Don Imus was funny. His telephone skit, "10,000
Hamburgers to Go" is still funny 40 years later. But he got cranky and is
probably interesting today only to people who remember him from long ago and
don't realize he's never going to be funny again.

Local note: Knox LaRue fired him from KSTN for his shock jock antics. It's
hard to believe he was ever a shock jock to listen to him today.

Anyone have any ideas on how long current host contracts are?

Owens, Gross, Burns, Rothmann, Ray, others?

Seems I remember Ronn saying he was under contract for a fairly long
time.
Would Citadel have to buy him out to remove him?

Would a syndicated show cost so much less, that the station would make
more with far less people listening?

I guess one of the first signs of change will be seen in who replaces
Lazurus.

Yep. Or just bench him. Wouldn't be a lot point in that, would there?

That's what every idiot thinks when they go in and decimate the real
programming. What they don't realize is how fast and how far the ratings
(and revenues) drop. They never realize that, ever. And once they do
that, it is irreversible.

> I guess one of the first signs of change will be seen in who replaces

Maybe, but the significant changes that will proclaim the future are in
the shuffle that occurs in the back office. Replacing one low-rent
"talent" like Lazurus with another isn't particularly significant.

Especially given that time slot. Few are listening, which is why most
stations put on barter garden shows or Rush reruns.

Here's a short business blog entry from Andrew Ross of the Chronicle. In an
interview with Ross, Luckoff stated about Citadel, "These aren't very good
people," he said. "They don't treat people well. They undermine you at every

Good for him! Citadel is not a broadcasting company. I don't know what
it is, but they aren't broadcasters. As long as they kept their hands
off KGO, it flourished. But, as predicted from the beginning, that
couldn't last. The temptation to mess around with it with all the
amateurish nonsense that is so typical of corporate radio had to win out
at some point.

Arguably the finest radio manager in the nation has come out and given
an unambiguous vote of no confidence to the clowns at Citadel. I think
that's magnificent. They have destroyed most of the ABC stations,
dragging them down to dripping mediocrity, and now they're finally
getting around to KGO.

I don't think there is anyone who would try to argue that Citadel did
nothing but lay waste to a once mighty radio empire. And to think that I
was once an apologist for the corporate raiders.

Was that ever a mistake!

Mickey Finn Fuckoff,
is the same individual who was at the head of KGO TV
and KGO Radio, when they decided to do a dull-blade
of sinister intentions, the hatchet-job against Bernie Ward.

Using TV and 50,000 watts (KGO) to purposely make it
difficult for Bernie Ward, with a lengthy and 'almost like
a grudge', went after Bernie Ward publicly, over and
over again.....with Brian Copeland too taking pot shots
at Bernie Ward, who suffers in jail today.....

Mickey Luckoff.....These activities all during the period
BEFORE THE SENTENCING PHASE !

That is a clear violation of a person's right to get a fair
trial and sentence (in an already evil jewdiciary), because
Mickey Fuckoff decided to totally go over the line
in regards to Bernie Ward,
who suffers right now,
for some fucking lousy pictures !

Yet is is Mickey Luckoff the Fucker !
Who sat there and watched America' Favorite Home
Videos, with time and time and time and time and
time and time AGAIN,
the images / videos of pre-pubescent children, many
with no clothes...even one with a child butt naked
showing a playing card in the childs butt crack,
seen walking in their living room. That is just one
example of the clear CHILD PORN that KGO
daily offers up...Disney No Less, the America's
Favorite Videos !

Mickey Luckoff, using KGO's wattage and power to
change opinions in society......decided to literally
eliminate....KILL Bernie Ward, who is being
tortured right now !

And Yet, Mickey The Fucker, is watching all the
naked disgusting children on America's Favorite
Videos !

Fuck You Fuckoff !
I am so happy that you are departing the broadcasting
world.

What I want to know is if Mickey Finn is a Mason,
or a Democrat, or a Communist Party Member....
I would like to know more about Mickey the evil
son of a bitch, who literally killed Bernie Ward
before the sentencing phase.

Fuck You Fuckoff !
Go and Die or Something !
You've worked so hard for so many years,
fucking over Michael Savage....I remember your
treachery, real well !

Go an Die or Something Luckoff !
Instead of a retirement watch given to you,
how about just a plain old wooden COFFIN.
You deserve it, you God Damn Fucker !

Bernie Ward is Languishing and Suffering and
being Tortured, over some lousy photos....
Yet America's Favorite Home Videos shows
all kind of naked children !

I hope he prospers in whatever he does after KGO, and wish the best

The stock you're looking at, Old Citadel, went bankrupt months ago. It is
worthless, but the SEC does not prohibit the trading of worthless stock. New
Citadel (the owner of KGO) is a private company owned by the creditors with
Farid Suleman, the man who drove Old Citadel into bankruptcy at the helm of
New Citadel. It's one of the stupidest business decisions I've ever seen.
You NEVER keep the old executive team in a bankruptcy. Not even GM did
anything so foolish when it went bankrupt.

Yes, but by "talkradio" I mean listener call-in shows. I prefer to hear
experts, not Joe from Moraga.
