I currently work in Airlie House care home situated in Victoria Park,
Ayr. The house is at least 100 years old but I believe that it is
quite a bit older than that. I wish to research the history of the
house but am not sure if it has always been called Airlie House. If
any could please let me know if they have any information about the
house then please let me know. I would also be happy to be given any
websites or any other forms of obtaining information about the house
and its history I would be very grateful.

Hello Amy,
I am sorry but I cannot help you but I asked a friend & here is her reply

Airlie House.
I have looked at the forum this came from but do not want to join it
myself for the moment. If you have time, could you tell Amy to go to
the Carnegie Library in Ayr and ask there for information. There is an
entry in a book I have about Ayrshire architecture which describes the
"Italianate villas of Victoria Park" but that is all it says. The
other source she could consult is the Valuation Rolls in the library
from 1900 onwards. Earlier ones back to about 1890 are at Ayrshire
Archives which is still closed at the moment.

Hope this is of some help.
Regards,
Ann

Per GROS census and marriage registration records I have determined
that at least two of my ancestors worked at Airlie House in the late
19th century. One was a groom in the stables and another was a
domestice servant there. In 1891, the wedding of the domestice
servant was performed at the house. I'm not sure if that meant it was
open to the public, or just made available to her by her employer.
I'd be interested in any other information you have learned.
