Spinner untill downloading start

Hi,

I have set the axlsx gem in my project along with the controller, action, axlsx response view. It is working quite cool.
I have a link_to tag in my project

<%= link_to t("download_template"), {:action => "monthly_report", format: "xlsx"} %>

The file require some time to generate and send file. I need to show the spinner till than. I tried it in many ways but I did not get anything useful. I need to display spinner until download get started.

Do you have any idea how to solve this?
