Hi guys.

Been some time ago since I updated what's up with AuShadha

So there has been steady progress towards version 1.0.
Most of the work is in the 'new_icd10pcs' and 'au_pluggable' branch and much of it is about the internals of the apps. UI has changed very little.

UI work with FDA drugs has been paused pending completion of the DrugBankCa parser. This will give the drug list the ability to access DrugBank info on any particular drug, its adverse reactions, interactions, pharmacology etc...

ICD 10 PCS (Procedure Coding System) is where much of the work has been happening. Me and Derek has been coding and working together to try to optimise the app. It is getting into some shape now.

AuShadha has been successfully migrated to PostgreSQL; both for development and deployment. It has been advised by Django developers that it is better to keep the same database for development and deployment. Additionally, postgres is far more capable at serving concurrent requests in real world scenario than SQlite. SQlite had few episodes of database lockups with long running queries even in my machine during development of the ICD 10 PCS app. Thats one reason why ICD 10 PCS app is taking some time. The parser was tough. There is lot of data and we had to optimise the queries.

Derek has created a completely alternate query scheme to mine and I will try to incorporate this code into the ICD10PCS app. This is much faster than what is currently implemented.

You can expect a slight delay with DrugbankCa parser as well as there is lot of data; almost 100MB of it that has to be parsed and efficiently presented for the user on query.

So,

to make it short, on our way to version 1 and we are steadily progressing. A little slower than I would have liked in past month mostly because of a combination os heavy clinical work and personal time demands.

I will be updating the installaiton guide and README with the PostgreSQL set up instructions. The initial PostgreSQL installtion is OS dependent and varies widely if you are on Win/ Mac/ Linuxes.. So you must head over to the postgres website to do the initial installtion. After that you can follow the README that I will put out. This is slightly more convoluted than SQLite setup ( or lack of it ) but that the price to pay for a more robust set up.

Derek has been proposing moving AuShadha to Docker.io so that the entire installtion is portable and beginner friendly. Anybody with experience on this please let the group know.

Thanks,

Cheers,

Easwar
