Hi,

Is there any limits or recommendations on the number of vertex labels that an instance of Titan can hold?  As vertex label lookups are quick, we were using it to create a lookup/starting point into our graph across our DB. But we now have about a million of them and was wondering if this was a bad practice. We were thinking of making this an index based lookup instead, but we only want to do it if its absolutely necessary.

I am also curious if the same thing applies to Edge Labels. i.e. any performance or other impacts on having several million unique edge labels.

Thanks in advance for your reply!

I'm not aware of anyone using labels that way. I'd probably consider that a bad approach and stick to indices as you're bending the notion of what vertex labels are designed to do. Unfortunately, I can't speak to the performance issues or limitations you might hit though as a result of taking this approach.
